Good Morning, Astral souls!
Are you also tired of seeing every post on social media become a war of copy-pasting irrelevant quotes under a selfie?
Are you exhausted scrolling through Mindless posts, desperate attempts to get attention, and seeing people only posting about themselves, their accomplishments, achievements, new shoes, new bodies, and new haircuts?
I am not on social media now, but I have used it in the past. I was never obsessed with it, and I liked that it was full of great ideas and interesting things to see.
But things started to change really fast, and good content was overshadowed and superseded by useless content. It has now become a zoo where people go public with their life events, not knowing they are in a cage and are being simply watched and liked by others out of a habit of scrolling and following.
Social media had stopped inspiring me, as had all the musicians, public speakers, and creators I used to follow. So I quit it.
I then had time to learn a bunch of new things that helped me shape my personality and boost my confidence.
If you are on social media and you enjoy it, you do not have to quit it. Quitting social media is a personal choice. But if you decide to take a break from it, here are 10 amazing things you can do instead of being on social media.
1. Get connected to your mind and body

I learned that having filters, photo editors, make-up settings, and body image reshaping options in these apps can keep you in a state of being delusional about your real body type. Constant comparison and worrying about achieving the perfect body picture without working out or following a workout regime can stress your mental health.
I know tons of people on social media who have severe health and obesity issues but are pretending hard to come across as fit and set an unbelievable standard for their followers.
Once you are offline, sign up for a class that teaches you the importance of discipline when it comes to shaping your mind and body. You can enrol in a yoga and meditation beginner’s course or learn a sport that keeps you in shape. Any activity that is outdoor, like a dance class, trekking, rock climbing, kickboxing, or mountaineering, and makes you learn a new way to take care of your body, is good.
2. Learn about your country and its culture

We all live in some part of this world and in a country that belongs to this world. Learn about your country’s history, its states, its culture, and its challenges. It will make you aware of so many wonderful things you may not have noticed before or issues that need your attention or support.
Learning about your country is so much fun. You can watch videos, read books, or listen to podcasts, or if you have time and money, you can even travel to learn and explore more about your country.
3. Learn about your and other religions

We are all born free, and then we are adopted by a religion that becomes our identity. I believe we are all one, and I also know people who do not follow any religion. It is a personal choice, however, if you are religious or are curious to know about your religion or another religion. Learning about your religion will introduce you to so many perspectives and help you understand why the elders in your family think the way they do about your religion. This also helps you respect your and other people’s religious beliefs.
4. Spend quality time with your parents and grandparents

I am so grateful and blessed to have parents and grandparents.
What I am about to say might come across as bitter, but I think whatever we are chasing in life is nothing but an ego. Ego to show everyone what we can accomplish and who we can become. The reality is that no matter who we become, we are already everything in the eyes of our creators and loved ones. They love us and always make us feel that we do not have to be a certain way to be loved. It’s unconditional, and people who do that deserve more of our time than any social media platform.
5. Learn about how to manage money

With all the changing economic conditions and geopolitics, the financial decisions you make are not as easy as they were in the old days.
You cannot sit over a fixed deposit for the rest of your life and feel financially secure. The world and the value of money are changing, and to cope with the financial planning faults, Take time off from social media and learn more about how to save, invest and overcome a financial challenge that you may currently be facing in your life. Beware of Gurus and Teachers on social media that may simply breadcrumb you to make you invest in a life-changing bogus idea.
6. Complete a course of your interest

There are always courses that you have either enrolled in or have an interest in, but you never learn and take those interests up as you are busy increasing followers who know nothing about you and you will not know anything about them ever. They cannot teach you anything, or you lack the skills to teach anything to them.
Ditch them!! and learn that new language you want to learn; sign up for that dance certification; learn to bake that cake and cookies; and learn a new digital marketing skill.
7. Start a side hustle

No, the side hustle doesn’t have to be a million-dollar project. It can be anything that generates additional income and helps you build a community of like-minded people, or it can simply be a hobby that you promote and master, which can become your additional source of income in future.
8. Develop face-to-face networking skills

Learn to network more effectively, work on your confidence in networking, and learn. If you are self-employed and have a business, learn about different ways you can network to bring in more business. If you are a student, network with groups that are actually cool about learning new things. If you are a creator, initiate networking events where you can meet other creators and discuss your challenges and learnings.
9. Learn to observe details

Have you ever tried sitting in silence for a few minutes? Have you ever tried sky meditation?
Once you learn to observe the details of nature, things, people, objects, and words being said in your presence, You will master the art of absorbing what and who is worth keeping in your life and letting go of what needs to be dropped. Practising mindfulness and listening to others more is a perfect way to start learning from others with patience.
10. Learn to cook a signature dish

You must be thinking about what’s difficult in learning to cook a dish. it should not take more than a weekend.
Well, you would be surprised to know how long and how many attempts it can take to master a signature dish. It took me a long time to master sweet rice pudding and some of the regional dishes. I now enjoy cooking dinner on weekends for my loved ones and friends. and it makes me super happy.
Social media is not bad but it definitely distracts you from achieving real goals and limits your awareness of the real joy of living.

When not working, can usually be found reading a book, spending (perhaps a little too much) time meditating, practicing yog, or just vibing in the present moment like a mindfulness pro. And—despite claiming she knits very badly—she still picks up the needles now and then. Blogging to share her life learnings is her passion!
