Every time I meet someone who has debts, I ask them what they would do if their debts were all paid off. The immediate reply is- I would sleep and celebrate every weekend and every day. I would be the most cheerful and confident person wherever I go.
I would be thrilled to provide for my loved ones and take them on vacations to the most exotic places. Being free, at peace, and able to relax all day would be a blessing. I would be deeply grateful for everything I have and would never complain about anything in life.
You cannot even imagine the smile I see on their faces once they stop. And this is not just one person’s imagination. We all aspire to live like that, but debt stress means you’re missing out on all this and more in your lives. This is how debt stress is affecting you and your overall life. The heartbreaking truth is that debt is silently robbing us of it.
You put on more weight, stressing about the future and debt payments; you stop being positive and celebrating anything, not even your birthday; and all this in the name of lifestyle changes, only to break a never-ending cycle of money stress.
The more interest and ever-increasing bank interest rates on these loans, the more you are buried under a dark grave where you cannot move, feeling stuck, or even thinking of taking your life.
You stop having hobbies; you loathe fun activities since they cost Money. Y
ou become unavailable for any events because you cannot afford to buy gifts, and slowly your Money stress starts eating away all the confidence you once had.
Eventually, you stop seeing a way out.
You feel buried. Stuck.
Some days, you might even feel like giving up.
While others seem to be moving forward — buying homes, starting families, travelling — debt makes you feel like you’re stuck in place or falling further behind.
And no one talks about it — not really, because society shames people in debt, even though millions are silently suffering through it.
Here’s the harsh truth: debt doesn’t just drain your bank account. It drains your energy, your confidence, your mental health, your relationships — your entire life.
You gain weight, not from indulgence — but from anxiety.
You stop celebrating — even your own birthday.
You sacrifice hobbies, passions, and everything that once made you feel alive.
You disappear from events, from people, from life… because you can’t afford gifts or outings.
You start to believe that this is what adulting is. That this is what it means to be “responsible.”
Debts are dream killers.
